Finding the source of Bourbon Coffee

In October 2022, I traveled to Reunion Island, formerly known as Bourbon Island. This is a small island in the Indian Ocean, east of Madagascar. While there, I learned that there is a farmer growing arabica coffee bourbon variety Rond.

I met Jean Michel, an expert in agriculture and endemic plants of Reunion Island. Jean Michel and family own and manage Domaine du Cafe Grille and a small plantation of arabica bourbon variety Rond. The cherries are dried and left to ferment before being processed to produce beans of 0.8 to 1.2 cm long and 0.6 to0 .7 cm large. The beans are roasted at the Domaine. Jean Michel offered an expresso arabica bourbon variety Rond and an expresso of arabica bourbon laurina Hort.

According to Jean Michel, the arabica bourbon has its origins from Reunion Island.
